How to Crochet Granny Square Crossbody Bag – Step by Step

1. R1: Magic ring, 8 sc in ring, sl, ch 3.

2. R2: Dc, 7 dc inc, sl.

3. R3: Change color, ch 3,(2 dc in 1 st, ch, sk 1) 7 times, sl.

4. R4: Change color, work in sk 1 from r3, (ch 3, ch 4)  (dc, ch 4) 7 times, bring previous round's yarn to front, sl.

5. R5: Ch 3, dc inc, dc , ( dc inc, dc) 7 times, bring previous round's yarn to front, sl.

6. R6: Ch 3, Dc, ch 4 ,(Dc inc, ch 4) 7 times, bring previous round's yarn to front, sl.

Granny Square Assembly

1. Arrange your completed granny squares according to the photos and secure them with stitch markers.

2. Fold the granny squares on both sides and secure with stitch markers to form the bag shape. Now you'll see the basic dumpling-style shape of the bag.

3. Make a slip knot on your hook and use the pull-through method for seaming. Be careful not to pull too tight while seaming to maintain the bag's shape.

4. Continue repeating the pull-through seaming method as demonstrated in the photos. Pay special attention when seaming at the crossing transition points.

5. After completing the first seam path, cut and secure the yarn as shown.

6. Repeat the same seaming process on the other side.

7. To seam the bottom of the bag, start with another slip knot on your hook as illustrated.

8. Insert your hook and use the mattress stitch to complete the bottom edge seaming.

9. Once seaming is complete, cut the yarn and weave in all ends.

Bag Opening Assembly

1. Attach yarn with sl st and beg working sc. Pay attention to the transition between the two granny squares.

2. Cont working sc sts. Complete first rnd and sl st to join.

3. Work sc around edge, sl st to join in first sc.

4. Work sc around edge, sl st to join in first sc.

5. Work sc around edge, sl st to join in first sc.

6. On the final round, add the D-rings.

7. Cont with sc sts. Add 2nd D-ring on opp side using same method. Complete rnd with sc and sl st to join first st.

Lining Assembly

1. Fold the lining fabric and place under the bag body.

2. Cut the lining following the bag's shape.

3. Sew the lining edges with multiple stitches for durability.

4. Test the lining size by placing it inside the bag.

5. Iron the lining flat and secure inside the bag with clips.

6. Center the zipper and secure with clips.

7. Begin sewing with a locking stitch method.

8. Secure the zipper with a knot and hide the thread end in nearby stitches.

9. Thread a longer length of yarn to begin sewing the lining.

10. Use invisible stitches to attach the lining. Tuck the fabric at the zipper's front end inside.

11. After completing the zipper seam, keep your thread attached.

12. Start sewing the opposite side of the zipper with new thread.

13. After completing the zipper, continue with the retained thread to finish the lining.

14. Secure with a knot, cut thread, and hide ends.
